Convert PDF to PowerPoint in five steps
- Open PDF to PowerPoint and add the PDF.
- Choose Page-faithful slides or Editable content (see below).
- Choose the layout and which parts to include: text, images, or both.
- Convert and download the
.pptxfile. - Open it and step through every slide, comparing it with the PDF.
The two modes
| Page-faithful slides | Editable content | |
|---|---|---|
| What each slide holds | The page as a picture | A faded picture of the page with one text box on top |
| Looks like the PDF | Yes, exactly | Close, but the page is faded behind the text |
| Text you can edit | None, it is part of the picture | The page’s text, in one box per slide |
| Best for | Presenting or sharing the pages as slides | Reusing or revising the wording |
The options for including text and images change what goes on each slide. With images off in Editable content mode, you get only the text box; with text off, only the picture.
What “editable” means here
A PDF stores where each piece of text and each graphic sits on a page, not the slide structure it came from. FreePDFKit therefore does not recover titles, bullet lists, tables, charts or shapes as separate PowerPoint objects. In Editable content mode it gathers the text it can read from a page, orders it from top to bottom, and puts it in a single text box on the slide. Line breaks are not kept, and on pages with columns the text can interleave, so expect to retype or rearrange. It is a head start on reusing the words, not a rebuilt deck.
If you still have the original presentation, use that. A PDF-to-PowerPoint converter is for when the PDF is all you have.
Slide size and layout
| Layout | What you get |
|---|---|
| Auto layout | The slide takes the shape of your PDF pages, sized to the largest page. Pages keep their own proportions and are never stretched. |
| Two pages per slide | A widescreen slide with two pages side by side, each fitted to its half. |
What does not carry over
- Animations and transitions. The PDF never contained them.
- Speaker notes. They are not stored in the PDF.
- Fonts, theme and slide master. The result has no original theme, and the text uses a default font rather than the PDF’s typeface.
- Scanned pages. With no text to extract, they arrive as pictures.
Review before you present or share
- Compare each slide with its PDF page, especially pages with columns, tables or charts.
- In Editable content mode, check the order of the text and add the line breaks back.
- Open the file in the app you will present from, because other programs may render it a little differently.
- If the file is large, compress it or lower the number of image-heavy slides; see the compression guide.

Privacy and limits
The conversion runs in your browser, so the PDF is not uploaded. Files up to 25 MB are accepted for Office conversions. Image-heavy decks need more memory, so close other tabs if it slows down. A password-protected PDF has to be unlocked first; see the unlock guide.

Common questions
Will I be able to edit the slides?
Only partly. In Editable content mode each slide has a text box with the page’s text, which you can edit and copy, but titles, bullets, shapes, tables and charts are not rebuilt as separate objects. In Page-faithful mode the page is a picture and is not editable.
Which mode should I choose?
Choose Page-faithful slides when the pages must look exactly as they do in the PDF, for example to present or share them. Choose Editable content when you mainly want to reuse or revise the text.
Do animations and speaker notes carry over?
No. A PDF is static, so the slides are static, and speaker notes are not part of the PDF.
What happens with a scanned PDF?
A scan has no text to extract, so each slide is just a picture of the page. FreePDFKit does not run OCR.
Can I use the result in Google Slides?
Yes. Download the PPTX and import it into Google Slides.
What is “two pages per slide”?
It lays two PDF pages side by side on one widescreen slide, which suits portrait pages such as handouts.
How big can the PDF be?
Up to 25 MB. Conversions to and from Office formats have a lower limit than other tools because they use more browser memory.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, so the file stays on your device.
